Today’s 13th Of June. The day of Saint Anthony. The patron saint of Lisbon.
In the whole month of June the city of Lisbon goes out to the streets and enjoy the first Summer nights, ribbons and balloons are hanged in the balconies, every corner is good enough to dance and the smoke of charcoal grilled sardines is really unavoidable everywhere you go. It’s like that throughout the month, but the peak really is one the one from 12th to 13th: Saint Anthony night, Lisbon’s longest night of the year, when most of the city flows into the old neighborhoods to celebrate.
In the last years I’ve been photographing that, but in a very relaxed and casual way, carrying a small compact camera while drinking some beers and finding my way to the crowds, taking some snapshots along the way. Call it a simple excuse to get out and party.
But this year has not been the case, besides the color photo above and mobile shots in my Instagram account, neither the photography or the beer drinking has been prolific enough to go with the occasion. And I might have a reason for that: my mind is already out of here, and my body in a couple of weeks will follow it back to India!

Some places at Alfama, Bica or Mouraria become busy gathering spots.

Every couple of meters there’s a place to get a glass of beer.

…And it’s so easy to forget people still live where others party
